Senior High Youth Mission Trip
June 28 – July 3, 2019
For our 2020 Senior High youth mission trip, our Senior High youth will be going to Memphis, TN June 28-July 3, 2020. During our time in Memphis, our Senior High will participate in Disciples Summer Mission. Disciples Summer Mission is a ministry designed to connect young people to other Disciples of Christ congregations and to the city of Memphis as they learn about their faith and grow in service. During our week, they will create opportunities for us to help the people in the city through a variety of mission experiences. Our actions will be complemented with moments of prayer and reflection, as we explore how God is changing lives and transforming hearts. Disciples Summer Mission motivates people to act in constructive, appropriate and loving ways both now and in the future, challenging individuals to consider ministry and service as an essential daily part of living out their faith.
Your deposit of $250 for the Memphis mission trip is due on April 12, 2020. The final payment of $200 – (totaling $450) for this mission trip is due by May 10, 2020. I also encourage the youth to bring some spending money for snacks and souvenirs throughout the week. A prepaid visa card is strongly encouraged to ensure the safety of their spending money. I would also encourage limiting the amount of money they bring. They will need to cover two meals during the week. These are often meals we have during our travel days. Even with money for food, they should not need more than $100 dollars for this trip.
While in Memphis, we will be staying at the University of Memphis and worshiping at Lindenwood Christian Church. The campus will have air conditioning AND showers. We will, however, need to bring a fitted sheet, sleeping bag, and pillow. I also encourage our youth to bring the bare essentials. We are limited to two pieces of luggage with the bus.

As we approach this weeklong experience in Memphis, I want youth to prepare for anything. Flexibility and positive attitudes are essential to make this a positive experience. It is a mission trip, and we are going to serve those who Jesus called, “the least of these.” Let us remember that, for a week, we can do anything, and though this trip might not always be “fun” or “easy,” we are here to experience and combat poverty head-on. This week will be life-changing if we open ourselves up to the experience. I challenge each student to be ready to work and to give fully to the mission we are called to do during our week with the Disciples Summer Mission in Memphis, TN.
